Kiwis Opting to Holiday Close to Home

Kiwis Opting to Holiday Close to Home in 2015 the Islands And Oz Top Picks

• Latest figures from Flight Centre NZ have shown New Zealanders are choosing to holiday close to home in 2015, with Australia, Fiji and Rarotonga coming out as top destinations
• Cruising and touring also popular, with more Kiwis than ever before opting for this style of travel
• Flight Centre NZ say touring and cruising a good option for travellers due to the current low in the NZ dollar
Demand for travel continues to grow with more Kiwis than ever before packing their bags and heading abroad.

According to latest figures from Flight Centre NZ, international travel continues to be in high demand, with the most popular destinations for Kiwis in 2015 being those close to home - Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Fiji, Rarotonga and the Gold Coast.

For those traveling further abroad, the pull of major sporting events and Europe in the summer have proven popular with London coming up trumps as the top long-haul destination.

Sue Matson, Flight Centre NZ general manager retail, says New Zealanders are really making the most of now being a great time to travel. She says we are in a ‘Golden Era of Travel’ at the moment, with many destinations being much more accessible and more competitively priced than ever before.

New Zealand’s largest travel show, Travel Expo, is being held in Auckland, Saturday August 8 and Sunday August 9 and Ms Matson says it will be a great opportunity for Kiwis to lock in their next holidays. Hosted by Flight Centre NZ Ltd, the Travel Expo provides expert travel advice, holiday packages, cruises and exclusive flight discounts.

“It’s no secret that Kiwis love to explore the world and with exclusive deals available over the weekend, Travel Expo is the perfect time for them to be booking their next holiday,” Ms Matson says.

Ms Matson goes on to say that with the current low in the Kiwi dollar, booking a cruise or a guided holiday at Travel Expo is a really good idea.

“Dependent on the level of inclusiveness, booking and paying ahead of time can mean that holidaymakers won’t need to be concerned about the dollar potentially falling further later this year and impacting on planned budgets for food, hotels, transport and activities. Travel Expo traditionally has really good deals for cruises and tours so it will be the perfect opportunity to be able to pick up really good 2016 holiday packages at 2015 prices,” Ms Matson says.

Ms Matson goes on to say that cruising has seen huge growth in the last couple of years, and an increase in the number of ships coming to New Zealand has seen a lot more Kiwis choosing to travel this way.

“We have seen cruising explode in New Zealand in the last couple of years and that’s really exciting for Kiwis. The number of ships coming down to New Zealand means cruising can now be a very cost effective all-inclusive holiday option,” Ms Matson says.

Travel Expo will be held at the ASB Showgrounds, Greenlane and will offer exclusive specials for a range of destinations across the globe, as well as travel presentations, information about touring, cruising, adventure travel, travel insurance and more.
