Auckland Region’s finest homes announced

Auckland Region’s finest homes announced

A new build on Waiheke Island and a renovation in Albany have been revealed as this year’s top Auckland region homes, winning Supreme Awards in the Auckland Registered Master Builders 2015 House of the Year.

K2 Builders took out four regional awards with their winning home, including a Gold Award and category win for the Westpac New Home over $2 million, as well as the Craftsmanship Award and Auckland Registered Master Builders Supreme Award for the 2015 House of the Year.

Glover Homes was awarded the Supreme Award for Auckland Registered Master Builders 2015 Renovation of the Year, as well as a Gold Award and overall category win for the SafetyMate Renovation Award over $500,000.

K2 Builders’ winning project impressed the judges, who said this home set the standard for excellent craftsmanship.

“Nestled on the side of a hill with views of the harbour, this home has been cleverly designed to take advantage of the surrounding environment,” they said.

“The home is made up of several pods connected by a central hallway. Different timbers and finishes are meticulous in the ceilings, walls and floors. The exterior cedar cladding has been carefully fixed over a waterproof wall structure, well suited to the extreme weather conditions.

“This is a beautiful home worthy of the Supreme Award, taking a simple design and elevating it to a high art with remarkable attention to detail.”

The judges called Glover Homes’ winning home a well-designed renovation that was beautifully carried out.

“This renovation was crafted, detailed and finished meticulously while retaining the character of the original home. The client and architect required a high level of preciseness and detail, which the builder carried out beautifully,” they said.

“This was a two-year renovation, and there were times where there were twelve builders on site. A stand out feature was the indoor-outdoor area oriented to the sun – a beautiful spot to entertain and relax.

“This is a stunning home set in a wonderful landscape with a beautiful interior.”

The results were revealed at a gala dinner on Saturday 8 August at Shed 10. The winning builders were recognised by members of the Auckland Registered Master Builders and members of the local building industry.

There were 33 Gold Award winners from the Auckland region which will now be eligible, alongside Gold Award winners from up and down the country, to become National Gold Reserve finalists, which will be announced in September.

National category winners and the Registered Master Builders Supreme Awards for Renovation of the Year and House of the Year will be announced at a gala dinner in Auckland in November.

The Awards are made possible through the support of PlaceMakers, Master Build Services, James Hardie, GIB, Nulook, SafetyMate, Carters, ITM, Plumbing World, Resene, Westpac and Mitre 10.
