Nelson based house builders construct top 100 home

The Nelson Bays franchise of Jennian Homes has been recognised as building one of the top 100 homes in the national 2015 Registered Master Builders House of the Year Awards.

The immaculately designed and built home, which is in Tuna Bay, Tennyson Inlet, in the Marlborough Sounds, has been recognised as a Gold Reserve National Finalist, meaning it has been scored within the top 100 homes nationally. It will now go on to be judged in the national finals, with winners being announced on November 14.

Surrounded by native bush with 180 degree views of Tuna Bay, the judges called it a high-quality, well-designed home, built on a challenging site. “This Marlborough home was a pleasant surprise, after a long, windy drive into a remote but stunning holiday retreat, they said.

“Access to the site posed a range of challenges for the builders to navigate.

The end result was a well-balanced home with a design tailored to its function as a holiday home. It takes full advantage of the bush setting and outstanding views and is an exceptional build for its price range.”

The home is smartly built at only 117 square metres in size, whilst featuring three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a joint kitchen and living area and separate lounge. It has raked ceilings up to four metres high and is surrounded by glass for spectacular views.

According to Daryl O’Reilly, general manager for Jennian Homes Nelson Bays, the house was difficult to build, as it is based on a single lane road on very rocky terrain, and building material could only access the site through one side.

“I am very proud of what we’ve achieved. These awards prove the incredibly high standard of our workmanship, and that we have great systems and procedures in place, along with a well-recognised construction process, and a very loyal and high achieving team and group of sub-contractors,” he said. www.jennian.co.nz
