Internationally-acclaimed American horse trainer Farah DeJohnette is returning to New Zealand in November to once again deliver her successful series of horsemanship clinics.
DeJohnette brings a unique approach to equine training, developed over more than 20 years in the industry. Her skills derive from both her competitive experience and years of honing her horsemanship skills through natural, classical and holistic approaches.
Her clinics are tailored to suit all riders from novice to advanced professional and will be centered on the Farah DeJohnette Horsemanship (FDH) framework. The framework focuses on the relationship between horse and rider and three important leadership elements: connection, communication and trust.
This year, DeJohnette will place an emphasis on improving the riders ‘seat’ and is inviting people to join her for her popular $10 demo evening on Friday, 20 November, between 5.30-7.30pm, at 70 Riversdale Road in Carterton. Riders are asked to bring along a yoga ball to sit on.
Local rider and clinic organiser, Bek Farr, is a big fan of Farah’s techniques and feels that ‘seat awareness’ is a key ingredient to ensuring that the rider has a strong connection with their horse.
“Many riders ride without engaging their seats, they are too quick to pull the reins and dig in their heels,” explained Farr. “Seat awareness is not often spoken about and many riders don’t fully understand the intricacies of using their seat.”
The clinics will run from 21-23 November at the RDA Riding Centre in Masterton, and will be preceded by two training days designed to give Farah an opportunity to get to know individual horses and their owners before they take part in the clinics.
“The training days will help Farah understand any underlying issues and give her the opportunity to work through them beforehand,” added Farr.
The clinics run in one, two and three day options and the full three-day clinic costs US$515. The training days cost US$175 per day. For more information, please contact Bek Farr at bek@nectarine.co.nz.
