GroupM sign lease at 22 Fanshawe Street

AUCKLAND, 28 October 2015 – World’s largest media investment operation, GroupM, have signed a 5-year lease for 1,200sqm at 22 Fanshawe Street, Auckland, brokered by the JLL tenant representation team.

120 employees from GroupM, who serves as the parent company to WPP media agencies Mindshare, MEC, MediaCom and Ikon, will move into new premises in February 2016. The 12-storey newly refurbished office tower, designed by Stephenson & Turner, will house GroupM’s Auckland operations as well as WPP’s PR Agency PPR and creative agency BCG2.

Debra Payne, Associate Director of JLL’s Tenant Representation division, who was engaged exclusively to act on behalf of GroupM says, “As of February 2016 GroupM will lease high-profile naming and signage rights for the tower which will be known as GroupM House and will exist as the new headquarters for the GroupM business here in New Zealand.”

GroupM are vacating their existing premises at 1 Cross Street, Newton and 11 Westhaven Drive, Westhaven and will join current tenants Robert Walters and Solo Espresso Café at 22 Fanshawe Street. Payne says the motivation behind the choice of premises was driven by proximity to public transport, local amenities and overall improvement in quality of premises.

“At this stage in the cycle, with the influence of positive business sentiment, we are seeing tenant’s look to upgrade to better quality buildings with improved access to public transport and proximity to amenities for staff. Staff attraction and retention is becoming increasingly important to businesses where there is competition for skilled employees and this plays a large role in future occupational considerations by business leaders” says Payne.

GroupM will benefit from the modern high quality finishes, expansive floor space and a good ratio of parking, which added to the appeal of this iconic property.

Payne adds, “GroupM were seeking a modern building in a CBD/city fringe location that offered something unique to allow them to create an innovative and distinctive tenancy that matched the GroupM brand. 22 Fanshawe Street provided the perfect solution for GroupM to rethink their old workplace design and apply some new and innovative solutions to meet their future needs.”

WPP are a global corporate client of JLL and the New Zealand Tenant Representation business was engaged to act exclusively for them in their search for new office premises in Auckland CBD.
