Accessible Properties, New Zealand’s largest non-government community housing provider, is proud to open 12 new homes in Linwood, Christchurch.

The organisation aims to provide top quality housing to people with disabilities or on low incomes.

The new homes include a mixture of one and two bedroom properties and are accessible. Features include being single story with wide hallways and fully accessible bathrooms.

“These homes are great examples of the kinds of properties we’re committed to building,” says Accessible Properties' General Manager Andrew Wilson. “They are good quality, work for people with disabilities, are in a great suburb and are right on the doorstep of local community facilities such as Eastgate Mall.”

Accessible Properties recently became the first organisation to attain a three-year term of accreditation as a Community Housing provider, having met and exceeded requirements of the Best Practice Guide for Community Housing in New Zealand. Accessible Properties’ tenants are also able to apply for the Government’s Income Related Rent Subsidy.

“We prioritise our tenants and pick tenancy managers that are committed to getting the best outcomes for the people in our homes,” says Andrew Wilson.

“We are also committed to Christchurch. We know there’s a real need for more good quality housing in the city and we now have 55 new homes completed, or underway, throughout the city.”

The project has been partly funded through the Government’s Social Housing Fund and with the support of the Rata Foundation.

“We want to thank the Rata Foundation for their incredible support and are delighted to have Roger Bridge, Chair of the Rata Foundation, formally open the homes,” says Andrew Wilson.
