Statement From Christchurch Gondola Re 6 February Incident

Statement From Christchurch Gondola Re Saturday 6 February Incident.

The following is an update from the Christchurch Gondola as a result of the incident on Saturday 6 February.

Just after 12 noon on Saturday 6 February the Christchurch Gondola stopped operating as a result of a possible faulty grip affecting one of the pod carriages.

Mechanical and engineering staff found a solution and the gondola was restarted and began operating again after a two hour delay. Approximately 20 customers received refunds and were offered free cold drinks and coffee.

Managing Director Michael Esposito said, “I apologise for the distress and delay for our customers. We train and prepare for a number of scenarios with various rescue organisations and emergency services so operationally things ran smoothly. We refunded those whose trip was disrupted and hope to welcome them back another time.”
