Cheap and familiar, ideal family holiday for Kiwis

Cheap and familiar, ideal family holiday for Kiwis

Auckland, August 16, 2016: New research has revealed that value for money and a familiar location are the key factors Kiwis consider when booking a family holiday.

The findings emerged from research conducted by Booking.com, the world’s leading online travel agent, which surveyed more than 2,000 Kiwis looking to discover the key ingredients of a great family getaway.

With ‘Somewhere relaxing’ and ‘A place both children and adults can enjoy’ coming third and forth in the research list respectively, the findings go someway to explaining the enduring popularity of the iconic seaside bach holiday.

Jaime de Silva, Asia Pacific spokesperson for Booking.com says; “Holidays can be expensive and stressful, if families know they are getting value for money and are familiar with a location this can counter stress, which is understandably important for families when booking a holiday.

“Parents in particular need the reassurance that the place they’ll be travelling to will be suitable for their family and have everything that’s needed to make a good holiday great.”

To provide travellers with as much reassurance and knowledge as possible, Booking.com rates each accommodation listed, based on the genuine guest reviews from people who have actually stayed there.

The findings:

Key factors families in New Zealand take into account when booking their holiday.

1. Great value for money
2. I’ve been there already and had a great time
3. Somewhere relaxing
4. A place both children and adults can enjoy
5. Somewhere with famous landmarks and attractions
6. Somewhere I have friends/family to host me
7. A pristine natural environment
8. Somewhere known for its great food and drink

De Silva says; “When it comes to family holidays our needs are simple and although the type of holidays we take are gradually changing, what we want out of them hasn’t.

Globally Booking.com lists more than 968,000 properties on its site and 3,700 in New Zealand. Accommodations include hotels, motels, lodges, resorts and the quintessential Kiwi bach.
