Meet Auckland’s top hair and beauty talent

Meet Auckland’s top hair and beauty talent: Industry Awards finalists announced

23 September 2016
For immediate release

Auckland won’t be waiting until November to celebrate success at the 2016 Industry Awards. In fact, with nine finalists in various categories across the awards, September has been a big month for the city.

A joint collaboration between the NZ Hair and Beauty Industry Training Organisation (HITO), Kitomba Salon Software, and the New Zealand Association of Registered Hairdressers (NZARH), the awards celebrate hair and beauty’s best in business and training.

Hairnow on Apollo has been named a finalist in two categories: Boutique Salon of the Year and Best New Entrant. The Boutique Salon of the year category acknowledges successful salons with turnover of less than $600,00 per year.

Birkenhead’s Biba Salon are a finalist for the Sustainable Salon category, and Rodney Wayne Albany for Employer of Choice. Biba apprentice Alicia Andrews and Rodney Wayne Albany apprentice Gabby Harris are also finalists for the HITO Regional Apprentice of the Year award. The Regional Apprentice of the Year Award goes to seven hair and beauty apprentices from across New Zealand. Bettjemans apprentice Mackenzie King and Jan Waite Hairdressing apprentice Stephanie Campbell are also finalists for this award.

Salons Oscar and Co and Zurri Hairdressing also celebrated, with trainers Carrie-Anne Webb and Ruth Irwin becoming finalists for HITO Trainer of the Year. The HITO Trainer of the Year award acknowledges exception hair and beauty trainers working in salons around New Zealand.

Tom Murphy, Managing Director of Kitomba explains “the Hair and Beauty Industry Awards are divided into two areas – business and training. The Kitomba NZARH Business Awards, now in their eleventh year, celebrate the idea that being good at the technical and creative part of your job isn’t enough anymore, that our industry has great businesses, that we can inspire each other to excel and that recognising and celebrating business excellence and success is good for us all.”

The HITO Training Awards ensure business and industry success through apprenticeship training. HITO Training Awards judge and hairdressing guru Lyndsay Loveridge said:

“Every year there are stand-out entrants that truly make their mark. It’s an honour to judge the awards, and we’re excited to announce the finalists for this year and celebrate success in hair and beauty”.

Kitomba Salon Software is New Zealand’s leading salon and spa software provider and NZARH is the umbrella organisation for 15 Regional Associations run by hairdressers for hairdressers to maintain and grow hairdressing standards. HITO set the standard for hair and beauty training in New Zealand and manage apprenticeship training for barbering, beauty therapy, and hairdressing.

Congratulations to all the finalists, and thank you to everyone that entered.

The winners will be announced at the Industry Awards on Sunday November 13 in Auckland.
