Farmers’ Market Comes to Town

Farmers’ Market Comes to Town

Four New Zealand farmers have joined forces to bring the freshness of farmers’ market free range eggs to selected supermarkets across the country – introducing Craft Farmers’ Co-op. Kiwis can now enjoy premium free range eggs, within days of local hand-picking.

Located in Northland, Auckland, Wairarapa and Canterbury, the four independent farmers share common philosophies in the way they care for their hens and respect their environment. By collaborating as Craft Farmers’ Co-op, the farmers can provide farm-fresh free range eggs direct to more Kiwis in more locations.

Craft Farmers’ Co-op eggs are hand-packaged at the farm, into biodegradable, recyclable cartons, each with a story about the local farmer who picked them. This means people know exactly where their eggs have come from – the ultimate in traceability.

“We are all very proud of our farms and our farming methods, which is why we choose to work together,” says Craft Farmers’ Co-op farmer Steve Smith of Lakeside Farm, Christchurch. “You know how much better vegetables straight out of your own garden taste? Well, that’s how I feel about the taste of our free range eggs, and we want more Kiwis to experience that freshness and quality first-hand.”

Smith has been producing top-end, free range eggs for 18 years – all day, every day. His team on the farm in Canterbury collect eggs from nesting boxes twice daily, ensuring each hand-picked egg is a good egg from the beginning.

“For a long time we wanted to supply direct to customers, and now we can – it’s like a super farmers’ market, from our hands directly to yours” says Smith, whose free range eggs are now in supermarkets from Nelson to Christchurch.

Finalists in this year’s NZ Food Awards, Craft Farmers’ Co-op eggs are only supplied to their specific area, meaning the only Craft Farmers’ Co-op eggs in the mid-upper South Island are those from Lakeside Farm in Canterbury. And depending on which farm you live closest to, North Islanders can enjoy eggs from Fresh Field Farm in Wairarapa, New Zealand Natural Farm in Pukekohe, or Northland’s Willow Rock Farm.

All the information about each local farm is right on the pack, and more each farmer has a profile featured on www.craftfarmers.co.nz.

Craft Farmer’s Co-op hens are all genuinely free range, with the freedom to choose how they spend their days.

As free range egg producers, Craft Farmers’ Co-op are audited annually and certified by the New Zealand Food Safety Authority to ensure farming and production methods are followed correctly.

Craft Farmers’ Co-op hand-picked, hand-packed free range eggs are available in six-packs at selected New World and Fresh Choice stores, throughout the North & South Island, with an RRP or $5.25.
