Millbrook Resort recognised as NZ’s Best Golf Hotel

Media Release
EMBARGOED UNTIL 9AM, 14 NOVEMBER 2016

Millbrook Resort recognised as New Zealand’s Best Golf Hotel 2016

Millbrook Resort has been awarded New Zealand’s Best Golf Hotel at the 2016 World Golf Awards, which celebrates and rewards excellence in golf tourism, world class courses and golf destinations.

Millbrook Resort, Director of Operations, Brian Howie said, “We’re honoured to receive this award and to not only be recognised for our 27-hole championship golf course but also for our passion for hospitality and delivering first-class customer service.

“In 1993, the Ishii family set out to create a resort of international standing to be built in harmony with the land. This award is an endorsement of their vision and business strategy,” said Mr Howie.

The award comes ahead of the ISPS Handa New Zealand Golf Open that will be hosted by Millbrook in March 2017. The New Zealand Open is part of the PGA Tour of Australasia held in partnership with Japan Golf Tour. The event will see leading professional golfers from the Japan Golf Tour play the event.

Millbrook’s golf course was designed by two of New Zealand’s most renowned professional golfers. The original 18-hole course was designed in 1993 by Sir Bob Charles and in 2009, Greg Turner, designed an additional nine holes and remodelled the existing 18-hole course. This provides three interchangeable 18-hole course configurations set in spectacular alpine scenery against the backdrop of the Remarkables Mountain Range. Each of the nine hole courses is named after a local Queenstown landmark: The Remarkables, The Arrow and The Coronet Nine.

In 2014 Millbrook acquired 66 hectares of land adjacent to the resort, which will enable further development of an additional nine holes that will provide even further options for guests and golfers.

This is the second time in the three years that the World Golf Awards have been running, that Millbrook has won New Zealand’s Best Golf Hotel. Votes from the public and industry professionals determine the award recipients. A vote from an industry professional carries five times the weighting of a public vote.

Millbrook has also recently won New Zealand’s Best Resort Spa at the World Spa Awards 2016 and has been recognised as New Zealand’s Best Luxury Hotel at the 2016 World Luxury Hotel Awards.

“These award wins demonstrate our success in achieving our vision for Millbrook to be not only the first choice of lifestyle resort, but a destination in itself,” said Mr. Howie.

Millbrook is a 5-star golf and lifestyle resort, in the Queenstown area. It offers luxury accommodation, a day spa, four restaurants, a 27-hole championship golf course, a health and fitness centre, conference facilities and real estate. It caters for on-site weddings, corporate retreats and conferences, as well as independent hotel guests and day visitors to the resort.
