Destination Wairarapa Launches Beer And Birds Campaign

A campaign inspiring New Zealanders to fly into Palmerston North airport then travel to the Wairarapa via SH2 has been launched by Destination Wairarapa, the regional tourism organisation.

Destination Wairarapa marketing manager Barb Hyde says the Beers and Birds campaign, which begins this week, is primarily designed to grow Aucklanders’ awareness of the easy access to the region available by flying to Palmerston North then driving south on SH2. Along the way visitors will travel past unique attractions including Te Apiti (Manawatu Gorge walking track), the Tui Brewery at Mangatainoka and Pukaha Mount Bruce National Wildlife Centre. Destination Wairarapa has partnered with Fly Palmy (consumer brand of Palmerston North Airport Limited) for the campaign.

“The Wairarapa is at the heart of the Classic New Zealand Wine Trail, home to part of the Rimutaka Cycle Trail and a great year round destination,” says Ms Hyde.

“Driving here via the northern route is easy with plenty to see and do on the way. New things include Tui Brewery, which has just re-launched this summer with its new state of the art brewery, garden bar and brewery tours, and Pukaha Mount Bruce with its new free flight aviary that houses kereru, whio, pateke, tui, kaka and kakariki.”

A key element of the campaign is a competition to win return flights for two people from Auckland to Palmerston North; a Tui Brewery Mangatainoka tour and lunch; a guided tour for two at Pukaha Mount Bruce Wildlife Centre; two nights’ accommodation at The Copthorne Solway Wairarapa in Masterton; a Martinborough Gourmet Wine Tour and use of a Cross Country Rental Car.
Palmerston North Airport’s Chief Executive Officer David Lanham is pleased to be supporting Destination Wairarapa’s campaign.

“Palmerston North airport provides excellent connectivity to Auckland with 30 flights a day to and from the destination, on two airlines,” he says. “Coupled with that is our newly refurbished terminal, affordable parking and easy access to the Wairarapa region.”

Anyone over the age of 18-years can enter the competition. Full details, including terms and conditions, are on www.wairarapanz.com. The Beers and Birds campaign, which includes a campaign video, will be run on Destination Wairarapa’s website (www.wairarapanz.com) and on social media channels. The competition closes on 15th January 2017.
