Watercare Worker Receives Injuries in Remuera Work Incident
Watercare worker receives injuries in Remuera work incident
A Watercare contractor has received minor burns to his face and arms whilst investigating a wastewater pipe in Ladies Mile, Remuera.
The incident occurred at mid-day, when Watercare workers were breaking open concrete surrounding a pipeline and struck a live electrical cable, creating a flash. The man was part of a small crew and has been taken to hospital.
The crew were hand-digging the area and the site has been cordoned off.
Watercare’s infrastructure delivery manager, Steve Webster, says the worker’s family has been informed: “The crew were not underground at the time. They were working in a shallow excavation in the berm when the incident occurred.
WorkSafe has been notified and Watercare has begun an investigation as to the cause of the accident.”
