DROPIT offers $10,000 relief at the pump
Tauranga, 3 July – Aucklanders feeling the pinch at the pump are being offered the chance of an early reprieve thanks to a leading Kiwi tech company dropping the price on $10,000 in petrol vouchers.
As the city comes to grips with the additional 11-and-a-half-cents on fuel, DROPIT is stepping in to help motorists save at the pump with its ‘Fuel Drop Week’.
Each weeknight between 7pm-9pm DROPIT will run 40
individual DROPIT auctions on $50 BP and Z vouchers. In
total $10,000 will be auctioned off across the week.
DROPIT is an interactive reverse auction app where the
price of an item drops to zero in the space of 60
seconds.
The mass audience activation platform was created and launched in November 2015 by Mount Maunganui co-founders and brothers Peter Howell and Brendan Howell. Their vision was to connect sponsors and sports teams with their fans during drop auctions in-stadium and has been used in the United States, Australia and here in New Zealand.
‘Fuel Drop Week’ follows a successful retail week where the innovative company dropped the price on vouchers from New Zealand’s leading brands including PAK’nSAVE, BP, Z Energy, Rebel Sport and Kathmandu. During this week $14,000 in petrol vouchers were auctioned off with some lucky shoppers getting up to 20% off.
DROPIT CEO Peter Howell expects this week’s bidding to be fiercely competitive as the fuel tax hits and motorists search for cost-effective solutions to paying extra at the pump.
“We’re so pleased to step in and help make a difference at a time where many New Zealanders are feeling the pinch of increasing fuel prices.
“We expect thousands of players on the platform during the auctions, and we can’t wait to talk to some of our lucky winners.”
Last night’s first round of auctions saw $2000 go under the hammer with an average of 13% discount per $50 voucher.
Nick from Kingsland, who won one of the auctions, says taking part was a “no brainer” after successfully saving $6.
“I’m saving money when fuel has just got more expensive,” says Nick who wished to withhold his last name.
“Fuel is a necessity for me and any way I can save on it, is money for other important things.”
Since launching, DROPIT has taken the app to the world’s biggest consumer market, the United States, running live auctions of premium sponsored items to entertain sports fans during NBA and baseball game breaks, projecting the action simultaneously onto massive scoreboards and users’ phones.
It successfully returned home to the New Zealand sporting arena this summer via the SKYCITY Breakers, NZ Cricket and Vodafone Warriors. Dropping fuel to the New Zealand public signals their expansion into audience engagement for premium retail brands.
