Thousands of employers signing up for payday filing seminars

18 SEPTEMBER 2018

Around 10,000 seats are already booked for a series of nationwide seminars to help employers prepare for the shift to payday filing.

From April 1 2019 all employers will have to file their employment information every time they pay their staff.

Inland Revenue has organised more than 300 seminars across the country over the next two months to walk employers through the new requirements.

Inland Revenue Community Compliance Manager Corey Sinclair says the sessions will help equip employers to be ready sooner rather than later.

“April might seem a long way away but adjusting to a new payroll system is not something you want to leave till the last minute.

“Inland Revenue’s systems are ready and waiting to receive the payday information but employers that use software will need to check that it’s compatible first.”

Seminar attendees will find out how payday filing works behind the scenes and will learn how the changes could affect their workflows.

Users of software that’s compatible with Inland Revenue’s systems will only notice a few small changes when filing but the seminars will also provide attendees with information on the three other ways to payday file through file upload, onscreen within myIR or on paper.

“Seats are filling fast for these sessions and new events have already been added to meet the strong demand,” says Mr Sinclair. “It shows employers are eager to quickly get up to speed with the new requirements.

“Payday filing is a great opportunity to integrate tax into your regular business processes and takes away some of the extra steps.

“The access to more timely employment information will also allow Inland Revenue to provide more certainty around an employee’s social entitlements such as Working for Families Tax Credits.”
