NZ Herald Delves Behind the Headlines

Friday 23 November 2018

23 November 2018 – The New Zealand Herald is taking readers behind the headlines for a more in-depth look at the journalists themselves.

Ahead of the launch of NZ Herald Premium, the newsroom is inviting New Zealanders to take a closer look at what goes into delivering the news that matters most to them. Audiences see the final product, but not often do they get a firsthand account of what it took to get a story, or the expertise, commitment and drive required to deliver the full picture.

In an era of fake news, the Herald team know it’s important that New Zealanders can relate to and trust the journalists bringing them breaking news and investigative stories.

Behind The Headlines takes New Zealanders behind the scenes with some of the Herald’s journalists who are experts in their fields. The campaign features a series of videos of the journalists talking about their area of expertise – including one where award-winning Editorial Cartoonist Rod Emmerson draws them in caricature. We even talked Rod into drawing himself.

Alongside Rod, Dylan Cleaver (Sports Editor at Large), Simon Wilson (Senior Writer), Fran O’Sullivan (NZME Editorial Director - Business) and Audrey Young (Political Editor) will be the first interviews to feature, followed by more of the team throughout the remainder of the year and into 2019.

NZME Premium Content Editor Miriyana Alexander says the Herald newsroom is stacked with exceptional talent, but often readers don’t know the journalists as anything more than a byline.
