AT WORK AND SOVEREIGN JOIN FORCES TO INSURE SELF-EMPLOYED

At Work Insurance and Sovereign announced today they have formed a strategic alliance to offer workplace insurance to self- employed workers.

At Work Chief Executive Sam Knowles says the alliance with Sovereign will allow At Work to market its new Self-Employed product through Sovereign's existing network of advisers.

Mr Knowles says there are 332,000 self-employed people working in New Zealand and At Work has joined with Sovereign to meet market demand for competitively priced workplace insurance.

Sovereign's Group Managing Director, Ian Hendry, says he sees the partnership with At Work as an ideal opportunity to extend the product range that Sovereign's advisers are able to offer their clients.

"Sovereign already has a 33 percent share of the disability income protection market and this, plus our health product MajorCare, ideally complement At Work's workplace insurance products," Mr Hendry says.

At Work expects three out of four self-employed people earning more than $20,000 will save up to 50 percent on premiums with At Work's new Self-Employed insurance product.

"A middle aged female accountant with earnings of $80,200 with no previous claims, but who plays sport, will save $684.77 a year - that's 49 percent off her current ACC premium," says Mr Knowles.

At Work's Self-Employed insurance covers accidents in the New Zealand workplace, home and sport. Car accidents will continue to be covered by ACC. Self-employed can make further savings by selecting from a range of excess options.

As well as forming a partnership with Sovereign, At Work has strategic alliances with a number of other organisations including State Insurance and GIO.
