FUNDING POT FOR LOCAL CONTENT GROWS

NZ On Air today welcomed state-owned broadcaster TVNZ's announcement it would fund a comedy series.

TVNZ today announced it would be funding comedy series Willy Nilly itself, after NZ On Air turned the proposal down.

NZ On Air chief executive, Jo Tyndall, said it was "wonderful news".

"NZ On Air has for many years actively encouraged broadcasters and others in the sector to work together to grow the pot of funding available for local television programmes.

"This is the first time in more than a decade that a high-risk genre, such as comedy, has been funded by a broadcaster.

"NZ On Air simply does not have the resources to fund every project. We welcome TVNZ's decision to invest in this production."
