Inside spaces brought to light

Fourth year interior design student Holly's "magnum opus"

No more sleepless nights for Holly Hammid as she hands in her final project

For an exhibition with a difference check out the works by final year interior design students at the School of Architecture and Design on Vivian Street.

Student Holly Hammid says the 25 fourth year design students complete up to five major works during the year. This final project is the end of blood, sweat, tears and late nights. "A lot of work is put in to this, it’s a whole years work".

This project covers architectural, as well as interior, design. Students picked a specific site and designed a structure that encompassed elements of light, dark and space. The students presented their works to critics for final comment and assessment.

The works are over two metres in width and many are created using computer programs such as Photoshop. A number of student have also included models as part of their display. Unfortunately Holly’s model was not displayed because it was attacked by a Chuppa-Chup before her presentation. She is sure the attack was not malicious and the model should be fixed in time for the exhibition.

The displays at the Vivian Street school go largely unnoticed by the public. However there are displays by students throughout the year and the public is welcome to visit the campus and browse anytime.

The end of year exhibition officially opens on November 11 in the foyer of the School of Architecture and Design.
