Education Concerts As The NZSO Visits Regions

Sold - Out Education Concerts As The NZSO Visits Regions

NZSO Education Programme 2001

The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra begins its National Education programme in May around the Subscription Season concerts, featuring Matthias Bamert, NZSO Principal Guest Conductor, renowned broadcaster on both television and radio and a man dedicated to the business of music education. In 2001 our programme offers a comprehensive range of activities catering for students from Year 1 to Year 13 and talented young musicians.

This month will see the NZSO taking the Education Programme for the first time to Christchurch, Hamilton and Hawke's Bay as well as Wellington and Auckland. The success of 2001 Education has been seen in particular in Christchurch where the orchestra will perform a "sold-out" Education concert.

The Education Programme pilots specialised concerts, small group performances and open rehearsals for Primary and Secondary students and focuses on the ability of people to respond to music in an infinite number of ways. Play with the Orchestra provides an opportunity for those who already play an instrument to participate in a big rehearsal. Opportunities for talented students come through the NZSO National Youth Orchestra and the Mentor Programme, which is run concurrently in Auckland and Wellington in partnership with The Edge® Community Arts Programme.

We hope that by giving our audiences the opportunity to experience music through performing, listening, discussing or composing, the enjoyment and inspiration we get from orchestral music can be shared with them.
