Pitch Black - Electric Earth and other elements

23rd July Press Release

Electric Earth and other elements

“Matter, energy and thought, rhythms and mutations”

These are the elements that Pitch Black has once again conjured up to create a sensual undulating album of remixes to be released in NZ in late July 2001. Electric Earth and other elements is an album of many styles and sounds continuing their genre-bending attitude to music making.

With Electric Earth and other elements Pitch Black offer a diverse range of musical styles created from the beats, noises and sounds of their second album Electronomicon. Maintaining the original Pitch Black grooves, the broad range of remix artists have deliciously layered the beats and influences of deep house, drum & bass and ambient rhythms to their tunes.

Michael and Paddy scoured NZ to bring together the eclectic group of musical talent to serve up the genre-diverse mix’s for audio consumption. Electric Earth and other elements features the sounds of Pylonz (Christchurch), Rotor+ (New Plymouth), Cuffy & Leon D (Wellington), Eckto (Wellington), Downtown Brown (Queenstown) and Rockwood (Christchurch), coupled with a special dose of Pitch Black live sounds from the final NZ shows of 2001 and a punchy radio edit of Electric Earth.

Electric Earth and other elements is available from www.mp3.net.nz on the 26th July and in stores on the 2nd August.

And in other news...

As the wild memories of the Outdoor Styles summer tour subside (national tour with Salmonella Dub and King Kapesi) and the cool winds of winter breeze through Aotearoa, the Pitch Black boys are now sunning themselves in the hottest UK summer since 1977.

The arrival in London has gone smoothly - all 200 kilos of high tech equipment were safely moved through careful hands of the world baggage handlers. Mike and Paddy are now based in an inner city warehouse teching their set to be played in Europe and the UK, the first of many European musical summers for PB! (See below for 2001 gig details).

The Pitch Black European showcase gig is ‘the underground sounds of the aotearoanz’, August 23rd at Cargo, London along with Freq Nasty, Kog Transmissions, Max Maxwell and Automatic.

With Kog Transmissions having secured UK-wide distribution for their NZ catalogue, Pitch Black’s second album Electronomicon is being released via Pinnacle in the UK on the 27th August.
