World Junior Rowing Championships Finals Day

New Zealand crews found the competition tough on the last day of the Junior World Championships. Conditions were perfect, however, recorded times were slower than in some of the preliminary races.

In the B final for the Mens single scull, Ryan Gaudin recorded a personal best time to finish fourth.

In the Womens VIII final the New Zealand women finished sixth in a very strong field.

The mens VIII finished sixth in the A final with Romania winning in a time of 5.49 from Russia and Great Britain who shut out the highly favoured German crew for third place

Earlier... SUCCESS FOR NEW ZEALAND AT SEMI FINALS DAY—WORLD JUNIOR ROWING CHAMPIIONSHIPS

The penultimate day of the World Junior Rowing Championships has been a successful one for the two New Zealand crews competing.

Ryan Gaudin in the semi final for the Junior men came fourth in his heat and goes to the B final tomorrow. Ryan was in the faster of the two semifinals and recorded the fifth fastest time of the day. Ryan recorded the fastest 500 metre time of any sculler on the day. It is incredible to think that the reserve for the Rowing VIII has performed so well with his sculling.

The mens Junior VIII had an excellent race to finish third in their semi final and go through to the Final tomorrow. They threatened Italy for second place for most of the race and finished within a second of them. Romania won the heat. New Zealand beat the fancied French team into fourth place.

The mens VIII tomorrow will be contested between Germany, Russia, Great Britain, Romania, Italy and New Zealand.
