MILO Secondary Schools Kilikiti Tournament A Colourful,
Cultural Sporting Extravaganza
Thirty-three teams made up of more than 800 junior secondary school students from 25 Auckland schools gathered today for a full-day Kilikiti tournament at the Auckland Domain. They were competing for the MILO Junior Kilikiti Title - in the largest Kilikiti tournament in the world!
Kilikiti is Samoan cricket, played wearing the traditional lava lava. Only in Kilikiti can you get the whole team out in half an hour, clap to the rhythm of the captain's chant, bat with a three-sided bat and be part of a 20 person team.
The winning schools were Mt Albert Grammar School (A Grade Boys), Otahuhu College (A Grade Girls), Papatoetoe High School (B Grade Boys) and Tangaroa College (B Grade Girls).
The MILO Secondary Schools Kilikiti tournament has been running for 12 years and has become one of the most popular dates on the secondary school calendar. It is a celebration of Samoan sport and culture.

together the many diverse cultures that make up Auckland's
Polynesian society. The brilliant weather ensured a great
day was had by all.
