Internationally Aclaimed Music Video Maker Visits Local School
When Year 8 Selwyn House School students “rock” up to school today, they’re in for a treat.
Internationally acclaimed rock music video producer, Richard Bell, is meeting with 22 of the girls from 10.30am – midday to share the experience and knowledge he has gained through working with bands like U2, Nirvana, Travis and Depeche Mode. Originally from the UK but now based in Christchurch, Richard speaks regularly at many of the city's film courses and supervises at CPIT on music video and commercials. He loves the opportunity to try and impart his enthusiasm for the formats to fresh and dynamic new minds.
The Year 8 students at Selwyn House are creating their own multi faceted exhibition called Metamorphosis, which will open at the Limes Room at the Town Hall on Tuesday November 18th.
Metamorphosis explores the idea that everyone is on a journey and over time, we change and grow. They are using dance, music, photography, film and art to express artistically what they believe is the legacy they leave behind after eight years at Selwyn House and look ahead to their goals for the futures.
The Year 8’s have driven the Metamorphosis project from day one. Each girl has selected either dance, music, photography, film or art and working collaboratively with local experts, will communicate their thoughts and feelings about moving to the next step in their academic and personal journey. It is an important part of the Selwyn House School “learning for life” philosophy.
“This last year at Selwyn House is hugely important for our students. It is the culmination of eight years of both personal and academic growth for the girls. Just as we prepare our pre-schoolers for the move to school, we prepare our Year 7 and 8’s for their move to secondary school. It makes all the difference starting that next level with the skills and competence so that they can ‘hit the ground running’, as it were.” Says Simon Mutch.
