Southland Radio Audience Measurement Survey 2003

Southland Commercial Radio Audience Measurement Survey 2003

The Southland 2002 Commercial Radio Audience Measurement Surveys conducted by Research International was released today at noon.

Department of Statistics Census Data indicates that there are approximately 64,900 people aged over 10 years in the Southland survey area used for the Radio Audience Measurement Survey. Of these 64,900 people, 90.8% of them listen to a commercial radio station at some time during the week.

The survey, conducted over 6 weeks and sampling 1211 people aged 10 years and over has found that Classic Hits 98.8ZAFM has the most listeners each week, with 17,100 different people tuning in. 97.2FM The Edge moves to second placing this round with 14,400 people tuning in each week. 98.2 Foveaux FM moves to third place with 13,900 different listeners each week, followed by The Rock 90.8FM with 9,700 listeners and newcomer to the market, Radio Hauraki, with 9,600 different listeners.

The commercial radio station with the highest market share in Southland is now Classic Hits 98.8ZAFM with an 18.3% share of the market. The second placed station is 97.2FM The Edge with a 9.5% share of commercial radio listening in Southland, followed by Newstalk ZB with a 9.2% share. 89.2 Foveaux FM and Radio Hauraki share fourth placing with an 8.7% share of commercial radio listening in Southland.

Breakfast results show Classic Hits 98.8ZAFM continuing to hold the highest share, with 23.4% of the commercial radio breakfast market. 89.2 Foveaux FM takes second place at breakfast with a 12.8% share. 97.2FM The Edge moves to third place with an 8.9% share of the breakfast market. Newstalk ZB retains fourth placing at breakfast with an 8.5% share. Radio Hauraki takes fifth position with an 6.5% share of the commercial radio breakfast market.

The margin of error on these results is +/- 2.8%
