video about pioneering video artist Nam June Paik (30
mins).
Saturday 31 July 1.00pm: an introduction to video
sculpture: walk through the exhibition Video Sculpture in
Germany since 1963 with Professor Sean Cubitt (University of
Waikato).
Saturday 31 July 2.00pm: improvised dance
performance in response to video sculpture by Kilda
Northcott (Dancer in Residence, School of Physical
Education, Dance Studies Programme, University of Otago) and
a collective of dancers and musicians.

3.00pm: artist's talk by Rachael Rakena (Massey University)
and premier Dunedin screening of her video work Rerehiko.

talks about his work and recent practice.

School of Fine Arts, Auckland) and Michael Morley (Otago

(drums, tapes, shortwave radio) in the video sculpture
exhibition.

Vincent In Brixton
Brixton, South London, 1873. History
tells us that 20-year-old Vincent van Gogh (Teodor Surcel)
came from Holland to work for the London branch of an
international firm of art dealers and rented a room in the
house of an English widow, Ursula (Cathy Downes), for 3
years. Romantically inexperienced, he discovers a house
filled with secrets and is gradually drawn into the
household’s web of seduction and duplicity. His sexual
awakening traces the birth of his artistic genius. Three
years later, he returns to Europe on the first step of a
journey which will end in breakdown, death and
immortality.
