Launch Pacific Arts Development Trust
Launch Pacific Arts Development Trust
Pacific arts and business sustainability will be the focus of a new Pacific Arts Development Centre Project being launched on 20th May in Auckland.
The project will target emerging Pacific business people in Auckland’s creative sector.
General
Manager, Maria Carter, says the long term goal is to
establish a Centre for Pacific Arts encompassing retail,
performance and production enterprise opportunities for
Pacific artists in the Auckland region.
“The Pacific
Arts Development Centre is an important project which
recognises the strength of Pacific Arts and supports Pacific
communities,” says Maria. “This project is the start of
formalising the process.”
In New Zealand, the recent
growth and profile of creative industries at national and
international level has proven that New Zealand music, film,
art and design are a force to be reckoned with. Pacific art
is a unique aspect of Aotearoa cultural identity and the
Pacific Arts Development Centre project will support
enterprise and long term success in this industry.
In
the short term, networking with existing arts initiatives in
the region will be the first step towards strengthening
Pacific arts.
“We have to start right now with the existing Pacific events and arts initiatives in the Auckland region,” says Maria. “High quality Pacific arts goods are an imperative in growing this sector.”
Several project goals will be unveiled at the PADC Project launch. This includes the development of a guidebook for Pacific arts in the Auckland region, a mentoring scheme for Pacific students on the projects and enterprise initiatives with a Pacific focus.
The launch will be an exciting and vibrant reflection of the Pacific Arts Development Centre with Pacific Music Award winner Sara-Jane Auva’a, Pacific/Asian cuisine created by chef John Oyagawa and leading Pacific and arts stakeholders.
“This launch is the beginning of a dream - and it is great to finally have it as a reality. Definitely watch this space!” says Maria.
