Elam Past and Present

6 October 2005

Elam Past and Present

Experience a rare insight into what moving image students at Elam have to offer. Auckland’s Academy Cinema will soon be host to an entertaining and innovative film exhibition, Elam Past and Present.

Selected short films and moving image works from students at the Elam School of Fine Arts will be shown alongside short works by graduates, Florian Habicht and Briar March. The films, most of which will be screened for the first time, span a variety of genres including animation, comedy, drama, experimental and documentary.

One of the highlights of the evening will be a chance to view Holly Shin’s award winning work, Remote. Taking out the Moving Image award at the Vodafone Digital Art Awards 2005, this work outlines the relationship between technology and its users. Breaking News runs along similar tracks, highlighting the inescapable hold technology has over those living in the modern age.

Other films include 20-year-old Louise Lever’s, Sealed Shut, a cinematographically beautiful film portraying two friends, their relationship and falling out, and quirky animation short, Poor Grime, a film that follows the story of a man who has never known relationships.

Briar March will kick off the evening with a talk outlining her development in the filmmaking world, followed by the screening and an opportunity to mix and mingle with the filmmakers over drinks and nibbles.
