Behind the Green Curtain

A moment in Karori Wildlife Sanctuary’s 500 year journey

Jo Moore, student and Karori Wildlife Sanctuary volunteer has spent the last six months in the Sanctuary following staff and taking photos as part of her photo-documentary paper at Massey University. Her work is now on display at Turnbull House, Bowen Street, 12pm to 3:30pm until 14 October 2005.

The exhibition features several stunning up-close shots of various vibrant flora found in the Sanctuary and a revolving presentation featuring photos of the conservation work that goes on behind the scenes along with written commentary.

Jo chose Karori Wildlife Sanctuary “because I want to specialise in wildlife and conservation photography when I graduate at the end of this year and wanted to show the public the huge amount of work that is being done in the Sanctuary that they are not aware of ... hence the exhibition”.

Karori Wildlife Sanctuary marketing manager, Rachael Dippie, says “Jo’s done a fantastic job of imaginatively capturing just some of the work that goes into running the Sanctuary. The staff’s favourite bit is how she describes our fence in her commentary – ‘the fence protects the Sanctuary as skin protects a human: any breaks or tears can let in potentially harmful organisms’. We love Jo’s work and I hope we can produce a book or journal using her stunning photographs.”
