Amplifier Newsletter #215 - 20 April 2006

Amplifier Newsletter #215 - 20 April 2006

Kia ora , Two more weeks (11 sleeps to be exact) until NZ Music Month! The Amplifier office is currently like a pack of 6 year olds waiting for Christmas. Wellington gets the NZMM launch concert this year after last year’s car park shattering Shihad gig in Auckland.

Of course some bands like 4ManBob are going to celebrate music month overseas, taking kiwi music to the world (or at least Germany, Belgium and Holland in this instance). Also Concord Dawn’s Chaos by Design has knocked Fat Freddy’s Drop’s Based on a True Story off the top of the Independent Music NZ albums chart where it had been since becoming eligible for the chart in August/September 2005.

So much music, so little time!

Ka kite ano.

Falter - Message For You

Falter began life as many other bands - thrashing out angsty pop rock in their high school music room. In 2003 Simon, Richard and Ben took out the National Rockquest competition, giving them the leg up they desperately wanted. By the end of 2005, Falter were an experienced and hard-working touring band, their success was enough to be chosen for the 2006 Boost Mobile School's tour. The tour will see them play over 100 shows all over New Zealand, from Invercargill to Whangarei. Check out their single Message For You.

Mars - Live From The Hempfields

The much anticipated debut album from Mars, 'Live From Hempfields' is a timeless and eclectic mix of pop-inflected rock. Mars are originally from Christchurch and singer/songwriter Stephen McIntyre was part of Flying Nun's early roster. One can hear in this work the same influences that have inspired other South Island bands down the years: it's all about textures. A delicately arranged collection of songs with outstanding use of vocal harmonies and interweaving guitar parts.
