Magic to final, Sting get second chance in Semi

Magic though to final, Sting get second chance in Major Semi Final

Waikato/BOP Magic supported by Sleepyhead regained their top form in their semi final match against Ascot Park Hotel Southern Sting on Friday, booking Magic a home final. Magic’s Irene van Dyk outplayed the Sting defenders to record 43 goals from 44 attempts (98%), while Tanya Lund shot at 78% (25/32). Sting coach Robyn Broughton made the most of her attacking depth rotating Tanya Dalton, Belinda Colling and Natalie Avellino in the shooting circle, finally having all three on court with Avellino donning the Wing Attack bib, but Magic’s Casey Williams (player off the match) limited the Sting’s ability to convert the their attacking ball to goals.

Fujifilm Force hosted Ballantynes Canterbury Flames on Sunday in a hotly contested semi final at North Shore Events Centre. Although the Flames led the game 10-8 at the end of the first quarter, Force turned the game around in the second quarter, and led for the remainder of the game winning 42-39, with captain Temepara George winning player of the match.

The winning Force have now earned a place in the major semi final against the Sting on Friday 23 June, with the winner facing the Magic in the 2006 National Bank Cup final in Hamilton at Mystery Creek on Friday 30 June.
