Calling All Budding Stars – Maorioke Needs You!

Calling All Budding Stars – Maorioke Needs You!

The hunt is on again to find New Zealand’s best singers as production company Mauri Ora Productions launches a blazing round of auditions for the third MAORIOKE series.

The winner of MAORIOKE gets a cash prize plus the opportunity to record and release an original single, including a full-production music video.

Stunning Upper Hutt mother-of-three Toni Baird won the title in the second MAORIOKE series, beating 54 other contestants and hundreds more auditionees.

“It was an awesome experience,” says Toni, who recorded her self-penned single ‘It’s a Man’s World’ with Mai Music, joining the ranks of Katchafire and Whirimako Black. “From the auditions, right through to the finals, it was amazing. Through MAORIOKE, I got my face and my voice out there, and it was a chance to meet some really influential people. Seriously, people, if you feel like you’ve got it in you, give it a go. You’ll have a blast!”

Here are Toni’s top tips for MAORIOKE auditions:
1) Be prepared – from your song to your outfit, make sure you know what you’re doing so there are no mistakes
2) Choose a song that suits your voice, learn the correct words, practise hard out, and remember that it doesn’t have to be a really popular or current number.
3) Dress to impress but show your personal style to make your mark visually
4) Don’t be afraid to promote yourself and truly believe in yourself
5) If you get nervous, take slow deep breaths and concentrate on what you have to do at that moment.
“And have fun,” adds Toni. “MAORIOKE is a very positive experience so get ready to really enjoy yourself. I know I won’t be missing a single episode.”
