Coupland’s Ensures Kids Continue To “Have A Ball”

This year’s Rotary Club annual “Kids Have a Ball”, attended by 700 guests on Saturday 19 August has been heralded as an unprecedented success raising $71,000 for various Christchurch children-related charities.

Meri Gibson, chair of the Rainbow Children’s Health Trust says that it was the overwhelming generosity of Coupland’s Bakeries, who contributed to over a third of the funds raised on the night, that was a significant boost to the charities the evening supports.

“Coupland’s has supported this event for the past five years but their generosity this year has been outstanding and is testament to their commitment to the community,” says Ms Gibson.

“Ray Coupland, managing director of Coupland’s Bakeries, has always been an active but low-key supporter of several charities. Over the years Coupland’s has purchased a great deal of memorabilia at charity auctions and in the near future they plan to build a museum to display all of this and share it with the public.”

The jewel in the crown of this collection will be Coupland’s latest purchase at the “Kids Have a Ball” auction “The Rolling Stones Guitar”. A beautifully mounted and framed Fender Guitar autographed by all the Rolling Stones, along with album covers and a letter of authenticity, it represents a rarely available piece of rock memorabilia.

Other charities to benefit from the Rotary Club “Kids Have a Ball” event are the Family Help Trust and Plunket, along with the Rainbow Children’s Health Trust.
