Sofitel Queenstown Unveils A Night Of Parisian Glamour

Queenstown's award-winning five-star Sofitel Queenstown will host its biggest party ever as part of the internationally-renowned ASB JazzFest in October.

During the glamorous Sofitel 'Paris Night' on October 19, the retail area of the hotel, with its sweeping staircase and marbled interior, will be transformed into a Parisian jazz quarter.

Seven venues throughout the building will feature different jazz musicians and bands including Galapagos Duck, Gahu, the Doug Caldwell Trio and Fiona Pears.

Guests will enter by red carpet to the flashbulbs of paparazzi, fountains of champagne, 'buskers' and bands, and will be able to pick and choose from supper nibbles from canapés to patisserie delights.

"It will be a true night to remember culminating in a celebratory fireworks display at 11pm," said Sofitel Queenstown general manager Mark Wilkinson.

"We are looking forward to a night of diverse jazz, glamorous frocks, and a distinctly Parisian ambience.

"Without a doubt this will be the glamour event of the ASB JazzFest and one of the best nights of the year on the Queenstown social calendar."

Galapagos Duck is Australia's most popular jazz band, featuring five individually talented musicians who together produce a unique style and sound with infectious energy.

Gahu is very different again, a group of seven musicians with a passion for music they describe as Afro-Kiwi fusion. It draws on traditional rhythms from tribal Ghana and mixes in some high cholesterol funk to produce an onstage musical sensation that is quite spellbinding. Fiona Pears is a renowned violinist and recording artist with an international following, while Doug Caldwell has over 50 years' experience performing and arranging jazz music.
