Fashionz.co.nz Feature: Zambesi At Air NZ Fashion Week
Arguably the most anticipated show on the schedule, and the final show of the week, last night Zambesi gave us sexy edginess in a directional show. Held at the Westhaven Marina, the show commenced with searchlights strobing the venue and ambient spooky music, which progressed into the Jaws soundtrack – somehow this managed not to be cheesy! An enormous boat hoist then slowly winched out of the sea to an audience gaping with amazement.
The marina was a perfect setting for the nautical themed Winter 2007 collection show. A colour palette of deep-sea blues, navy and greys dominated the range, offset with bold rust orange and hints of gold. Prints often referenced the sea, including anchor and lifesaver shapes. A beautiful silk print mixed teal, olive and yellow, and was used on volumous dresses and cloak style coats.

The collection was all about volume - from puff skirts to oversized capes to tulip-shaped sleeves. Stiff fabrics were used to create bold shapes and outfits were often belted at the waist. Plush velvet, wool, satin, and chiffon fabrics featured. A black and white tartan worked well on shirts, worn under frocks and jackets.

For the guys, suiting was strong with sharp tailoring and soft colour tones. Subtle checks were often used, as was velvet and silk. Pants were straight legged for guys and girls, featuring in denim, velvet and corduroy.
Elisabeth Findlay's innovative designs and cuts and use of “vintage” fabrics made for a standout show – I can’t wait for Winter!
