The Juice TV Awards bring down the house!

October 10th, 2006

The Juice TV Awards bring down the house!

The atmosphere was electric, the guests were well dressed and Jim Beam long blacks went down a treat at the Juice TV Awards 2006! Now in its sixth year the awards were broadcast live to air at Auckland's St Matthew-in-the-City from 6pm till late.

Awards goers were treated to on stage performances by a diverse line up of New Zealand's top artists including the feel good sounds of Billy TK Junior, The Tutts, our young South Auckland heart stopper Tyree, Stylus, Gasoline Cowboy, rock favourites Opshop and Auto Zamm, and crowd pleasers on the night PNC!

Appearances were also made by Aaradhna, The Feelers, One Million Dollars, Carly Binding, The Bleeders, Blindspott, Deja Voodoo, new comers Spacifix and many more.

Director of Juice TV, Daniel Wrightson, was pleased with the top notch turn out of musicians at the awards.

"It's fantastic to see such a talented and diverse range of New Zealand's top musicians and music industry leaders here in one place celebrating the same thing - New Zealand music at its very best!" he says.

This year the public voted for eight award categories including genres for Best Electronic Video, Best Hip Hop Video, Best Indie Video, Best Roots Video and Best Rock Video. The additional three awards were made up by Best Group Video, Best Solo Video and Best Breakthrough Video.

The last and final award on the night, AppleVideo of the Year was this year voted on by a panel of music industry experts and went to Marlborough singer songwriter Sarah Brown & Director Kezia Barnett. Her cleverly stylized 1920's puppet-like clip fused a renaissance richness with a modern day dark twist.

"To be recognized with this prestigious award has completely blown me away. Full credit has to go to Kezia Barnett from the Sweetshop for adding the visual dimension to my lyrics and music. Kezia exceeded our expectations by creating a mood and tone which is a cross between Italian Renaissance and a Man Ray photograph," she says.

Other category winners at the awards included Minuit, The Tutts, The Black Seeds, Odessa, King Kapisi, Goodnight Nurse, Stellar and Don McGlashan.

"The quality of New Zealand videos has really stepped it up a notch. It's great to see such outstanding technical excellence and expression of individuality across all the winners this year. We've come so far and can do so much now that we are really seeing an increased standard in videos today," says Wrightson.

The Apple Video of the Year winner Kezia Barnett received a glorious Apple iMac 24" Computer & Sarah Brown received a totally excellent iPod nano, all thanks to Apple!
