Auckland Festival, AK07 Tickets Go On Sale Tomorrow After Bumper Pre-Sales
Auckland Festival, AK07 tickets go on public sale tomorrow, Wednesday 1st November, after a busy two weeks of preferential bookings made by Friends of the Festival and Sponsors.
"We're thrilled with the amount of early bookings we've had and the huge support from Aucklanders joining as Friends of the Festival. I expect the ticketing department will be very busy once tickets go on public sale," says Festival Director David Malacari.
Friends of the Festival is a new scheme launched this year offering bulk ticket savings and Friends don't pay booking fees. Becoming a Friend of the Festival is especially beneficial for people who book three or more shows.
" We've had hundreds of people joining up as Friends of Festival. It's fantastic! The savings are significant, so it's easy for people to see the benefits. We've also had people buying them as Christmas gift's" said Ticketing Manager Violet Ryan.
Ryan says the top selling shows so far are French dance company Ballet Preljocaj; award winning UK DJ and multi instrumentalist Nitin Swahney, who has composed the score for the classic silent film A Throw of Dice and will be playing with his band and the APO at the Civic Theatre; the moving musical tribute, Tuwhare, dedicated to famed New Zealand writer Hone Tuwhare which sees NZ's leading recording artists putting music to Tuwhares words; and the Festival's major theatre commission, Penumbra, an epic and ambitious work in the style of Robert LePage.
David Malacari says he thinks the strong bookings are a reflection of the 2007 programme.
"The programme is a winner. We've put a lot of time into securing some fantastic international and local artists. Theres a great mixture of theatre, dance, music, cabaret, burlesque, film, visual arts, youth, family and indoor and outdoor events. Im very excited about next March and delighted with the response weve had from the public so far."
