Hooked On Fishing? Get On Tangaroa!

Maori Television’s popular fishing show TANGAROA, hosted by comedian Pio Terei, is casting its net far and wide for people to take part in the new series.

AKA Productions, which makes TANGAROA for Maori Television, is looking for whanau, hapu, kaumatua, fisherman and other coastal people who would like to appear on camera.

For this series, the TANGAROA team hopes to visit Waikaremoana, Wairoa, Mahia, Taranaki, Wanganui, Tauranga, Whakatane, Te Kaha, Raukokore, Rotorua and Taupo.

Different aspects of life alongside Tangaroa will be filmed in each area, such as fishing trips, shellfish collection, waka use, surf-casting, eeling, river life, netting, hand-line rock fishing, kina diving, gathering karengo or aqua-culture developments.

Applicants need to be chatty, have a competent level of fluency in reo Maori, have stories to tell about their relationship with tangaroa and the area, and be confident in front of the camera.

They or someone in their whanau should also have knowledge of the region, tikanga, history and fishing practices. Any age is welcome.
