"Come Home, We've Won Lotto!" Says Millionaire

Media Release 4 December 2006

"Come Home, We've Won Lotto!" Says Palmerston North Lotto Millionaire

New Zealand's newest millionaires will be catching up on their sleep now that they have claimed their Lotto First Division prize, says NZ Lotteries Chief Executive Todd McLeay.

"We haven't had a sleep for a while," said one of the winners, a couple from Palmerston North who wish to remain anonymous.

While one of the winners was at work, their partner was watching the draw at home, growing more and more excited as each of their regular numbers dropped down the ball shute.

"I couldn't believe my eyes, I was so excited I was running up and down the hallway," said one of the winners.

"I called my partner and said 'Come home, we've got six numbers'. They didn't believe me at first so I had to say it again - 'Come home, we've won Lotto!"

As with many Lotto First Division winners, the news is still sinking in for the winners.

"We're just going to sit back and think the whole thing over," said the winner.

"Our lifestyle isn't going to change, we'll continue on as we are, this just gives us more time and space."

The winning ticket was a Lotto Combo 8 ticket, meaning that in addition to the $1 million First Division prize, they also won multiple prizes in Third and Fifth Divisions. The total prize won was $1,006,996.
