Survey show cupids arrow favours romantic weekend
Wotif.com survey show cupids arrow favours romantic weekend away to spoil loved ones!
Auckland 13 February 2007,
Wotif.com (www.wotif.com) New Zealand’s leading online
accommodation website’s annual Valentine’s Day survey
has revealed that a weekend away was the top pick for what
people wanted to receive as their preferred gift.
44% of the people surveyed choose a weekend away as their most desired present, any present at all came in second on 24% and third favourite was a romantic dinner on 10%.
For that romantic weekend away an overwhelming 73% favoured weekend away at the beach or by a lake, 15% wanted to stay in a city hotel, whilst only 9% would prefer a bush retreat.
The most favoured New Zealand spot for a Valentine’s Day getaway was the Bay Of Islands, followed by Queenstown and then the Coromandel. While internationally the favourite overseas destination was Paris, followed by the Greek Islands and then coming in a close third place were the Pacific Islands, including Fiji, Vanuatu and the Cook Islands.
Sadly though, when respondents were asked what they were most likely to receive for Valentine’s Day 41% thought they would get absolutely nothing, 17% thought they would be taken on a romantic dinner, 16% assumed they would receive flowers and only 3% actually thought they would get that romantic weekend getaway that they were hoping for
Having said this Kiwi’s proved to be true romantics at heart with the majority of respondents preferring to spend Valentine’s Day with their partner or spouse than a celebrity.
When male respondents were asked who was their dream date, although many did not respond (potentially not wanting to choose between their partners or the raft of suggested dream dates, including Desperate Housewives Eva Longoria, Nicky Watson, Lucy Lawless and Cameron Diaz) the most popular response was their wife or partner.
This followed suit for the female respondents, of which more than half (54%) would preferred to be with their partner, however Daniel Craig (the new James Bond) came in as the number one celebrity date, especially amongst those who were not attached. Jonny Depp was also a favourite.
