Qantas Umpire Squads Announced
Netball New Zealand announced today the Qantas National Umpire Squads for 2007/8.
The structure of the National Umpire Squad has changed for 2007/8, with two squads of up to eight umpires each, replacing the one squad of previous years.
The National A Squad includes New Zealand's IUA (International Umpire Award) umpires. These umpires will receive extended development and education opportunities.
Umpires for the Tasman Trophy will be selected from the National A Squad in the first instance, but National B Squad Umpires may also be selected. The Tasman Trophy Umpires will be announced in early 2008.
Umpires from both the A and B Squads will be provided with opportunities to be considered for the international umpiring pathway.
The National A Squad
is:
Mandy Nottingham (Canterbury), Alison Cormack
(Southland), Bobbi Brown (Southland), David Palaamo
(Canterbury), Pauline Sciascia (Eastern) & Bronwyn Meek
(Auckland Waitakere).
The National B Squad is:
Jonathan Bredin (Otago), Lisa Anderson (Wellington), Aaron
Waiwai (Canterbury), Fay Meiklejohn (North), Yvonne Morgan
(North) and Kim Sinclair (Canterbury).
Ann Hay (Wellington), Kylie Batchelor (Canterbury) and Liz Boon (Wellington) were unavailable for selection at this time.
Kim Sinclair is the only new umpire named in the National Squads and has been promoted from the 2006/7 Umpire Development Squad.
