Artrageous Festivities Begin

It’s Artrageous ‘07!

Whanganui UCOL proudly presents a rich tapestry of student work from Wanganui School of Design, Quay School of the Arts, and the School of Fashion, in a month of festivities starting next week.

Artrageous runs until 26 November at a number of studio and performance venues around Wanganui. It offers the community an opportunity to help celebrate student achievements and view the work of the up and coming artists and designers of the future.

Students studying art, design, painting, print, glass, photography and fashion are all taking part. The work on display ranges from that of students in their first year of study to work from students at postgraduate level.

Highlights of Artrageous 2007 include graduation exhibitions in fine arts, computer graphic design and include this year’s 2007 School of Fashion Graduation Show ‘Now for the Seed’, at the Royal Wanganui Opera House on 9 November at 7.30pm.

The students describe the show as incorporating “concepts and ideas drawn from places that captivated us in some way; places that have entertained us, places which hold certain value for us or places either real or imagined.”

Whanganui UCOL Principal Sue Frecklington says Artrageous is a chance for the whole community to share the excitement of the year’s work by arts and design students.

“The festival is not just for the students and their lecturers. It’s a much wider event. We welcome family, friends, teachers, industry representatives, art and fashion lovers and all of those who appreciate talent and innovation and enjoy experiencing something new.”

Further information on Artrageous – including a programme with details of specific exhibitions – can be obtained from Whanganui UCOL Events Coordinator Jane Janes on 00800 GO UCOL ext 60884.
