Largest number of Kiwis ever to run NY Marathon

Largest number of Kiwis ever to run New York Marathon – 04 Nov

31 October will see many New Zealanders departing to run the ING New York City marathon

162 participants in total

Some gained entry through Qualifying time, very few through the ballot, the majority of participants have purchased a Guaranteed entry package.

All flights to New York on 31 October will have marathon runners on board.     The largest contingent will be departing at 6.30am on QF40 – Auckland/Sydney/JFK.   Among those on this flight are Melanie Burke, New Zealand’s up and coming marathon runner and well known radio host, Kerre Woodham, ready to do her 2nd marathon.

Melanie has been given the honour to be the Flag Bearer for New Zealand for the Friendship Run – Saturday 03 November, together with Rod Dixon who won the 1983 New York Marathon.

Most participants are everyday ‘Kiwis’ – holding down full time job, raising family and somewhere in the middle fitting in the marathon training.
