What Where When Details

Pink Martini SKYCITY Theatre Monday 14 January 2008 The Portland, Oregon-based ‘little orchestra’ perform at SKYCITY Theatre in their New Zealand debut.

“This is rich, hugely approachable music, utterly cosmopolitan yet utterly unpretentious. And it seems to speak to just about everybody…from grade-schoolers to grandmothers to the young and hip and beautiful.” — The Washington Post

“Pink Martini delivers a knowing sophistication backed by skilful arrangements…Ms. Forbes is an unpretentious, pitch-perfect chanteuse who can be breathy and girlish or sultry…she tempers heartbreak with savoir-faire.”
— The New York Times

“No matter how Pink Martini gets described, there’s always an element being overlooked, a reliance on phrases such as lounge, cosmopolitan rumba or neo-classical that only tells part of this rich story. Impressive at every musician’s station, this ensemble produces music that’s charming and elegant…” — Variety

The New Zealand Post season of End of the Rainbow SKYCITY Theatre Thursday 8 November - Friday 30 November From 8 to 30 November, SKYCITY Theatre proudly presents The New Zealand Post season of End of the Rainbow.

The on-stage phenomenon charts the final months of Judy Garland’s tumultuous life as she struggles to set herself on the comeback trail and secure her place as one of the world’s greatest and most idolised entertainers.

Set in 1968 in London’s Ritz Hotel, Peter Quilter’s play is a witty and affectionate comedy infused with the paradoxes and melancholy of stardom. It features a glorious ensemble of Garland’s most famous hits including C’mon Get Happy, You Made Me Love You, Come Rain Or Come Shine and, of course, Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

Auckland–born, internationally acclaimed actress Ellie Smith plays Judy Garland in the major hit that is rekindling memories of Garland fever that swept the world in the 1940s and 50s. This is a theatrical event not to be missed.

Make a night of it with a SKYCITY Theatre-dining package. Starting from just $59, packages include tickets to the unforgettable show and dinner at one of the five SKYCITY restaurants, Ming Court, Fortuna, Orbit, Observatory, or dine.

Friday 30 November 9:00 PM Jason Eli is the recently relocated English dj / producer fronting Groovadelica every Monday on George Drive 4-6pm

Born and bred in London, by '91 Jason became a regular fixture at Londons Ministry of Sound, playing predominantly U.S House in the bar & main rooms, and mixing up the styles in the VIP room before developing an all important Saturday night residency for the following 4 years.

Fast forward through many musical twists & turns with Jason operating a commercial studio, playing in / producing bands & developing a healthy disrespect for unfunky music.

Today you can hear him combining London attitude with the sunshine soul of Aotearoa on his Groovadelica radio show, where you’ll hear a musical mix of new release & essential classic Latin, Broken Beats, Rock, Reggae, R n B, Drum & Bass, Hip Hop, House (in its many forms) with Jazz joints to savour as well.

As a producer Jason is credited with production & remixes for larger & smaller labels in both the UK & NZ, And in the spirit of small, he’s now running a small (but perfectly formed) local record label, conveniently called Groovadelica, bringing cool music to groovy people (as well as groovy music to cool people).
