DVD/CD Launch of “YOU WILL KNOW” BROTHERS AGAINST VIOLENCE
Some of NZ’s top Maori and Pacific Island male musicians are standing up against violence towards women, with the launch of a new music DVD and CD “You Will Know” Brothers Against Violence.
The launch on Wednesday 21st November is part of the build up to White Ribbon Day – 25 November - the international day when people wear a white ribbon to show they don’t tolerate or condone men’s violence towards women.
Music video producer Ala’malo LuaMaynard says NZ has some of the worst domestic violence rates in the world and it’s the reason that many artists have volunteered to be part of this project.
Some of the more well-known faces in the crowd are Adeaze, Nick Carlson, Tony T, Saipele “Pele” Nili & “D” Letoa (of Cydel), Glen “JxN” Jackson, Malcolm Lakatani, Lapi Mariner, Vince Harder, Laau “Uncle Stixx” Leavasa, Tautiaga “T” Tiatia and DVN do the solo parts. Ardijah’s Ryan Monga along with Nesian Mystic’s Feleti Strickson-Pua and his son Che-den are faces in the full choir.
Ala’malo Lua Maynard is the driving force behind “You Will Know” Brothers against violence. Ayouth worker with the community organisation Friendship House and he leads the Ministry of Health’s ‘Promoting Youth Non-violence’ project in Manukau city. Mr Maynard says “You Will Know” Brothers against violence is a non-commercial song so it is available on request from Te Kupenga Whakaoti Mahi Patunga, National Network of Stopping Violence Services.
“All of the artists want the message of respecting women, and children to go out as wide as possible. We hope that making it available for free will encourage lots of people to play the song to their whanau, friends and communities.”
