International star headlines One Love 2008

International hip-hop / reggae artist J-Star has been announced as the headline act for One Love 2008: Aroha Tahi, the annual one-day festival of sun, fun, music and peace on Waitangi Day, February 6.

The UK-based producer J-Star is celebrated worldwide for his exemplary party-mixing skills, crossing multiple genres which is part of One Love 2008’s push to broaden the styles of music played at the event.

J-Star will be joined by reggae band Hikoikoi and Wellington supergroup The Yoots, featuring members of Scribes of Ra, Fat Freddys Drop, Phoenix Foundation and the Black Seeds. Radio Active’s Roots and Culture DJs round off the support bill.

In 2008, One Love: Aroha Tahi celebrates eleven years of providing a uniquely-chilled day out in Wellington for Waitangi Day, which is also the birthday of reggae legend Bob Marley.

The event has averaged more than 15,000 people over the past few years, packing the picturesque Hataitai Velodrome on the south side of Mt Victoria, with commanding views towards Wellington’s south coast.

In addition, One Love features a bar, arts & crafts, fashion and food stalls, and amusements for the kids. Organiser Dave Gibbons said One Love celebrates of unity, community and family.

"One Love really underlines the spirit of Waitangi Day," said Mr Gibbons. "Forget the madness, the strife and leave it all behind for the day. One Love is about celebrating unity and peace while promoting cultural understanding.
