See Whales: Tohorā for free at Te Papa – one day only

For one day only, Wellington city residents and ratepayers have a chance to see a breathtaking exhibition that explores the world of whales for free at Te Papa.

Wellington City Council is offering Wellington city residents and ratepayers the chance to see Whales: Tohorā for free on Thursday 8 May as part of its ongoing sponsorship relationship with Te Papa.

The Council’s Sport and Recreation Portfolio Leader Councillor John Morrison says the Council is delighted to be able to offer people the chance to see this exhibition free of charge.

“I am anticipating that this free day will be a great success. It’s a marvellous exhibition that offers an insight into the life of these amazing creatures. People can learn all kinds of facts about whales such as that the earliest known ancestor of whales was a small wolf-sized creature. I really encourage Wellingtonians to take advantage of this fantastic offer.”

Whales: Tohorā is a remarkable exhibition – alive with stories, intriguing objects and interactive science for young and old.

To gain free entry, Wellington city residents must present proof of their residential or ratepayer’s status, such as their library card, a bill or rates invoice which shows their address. This offer does not apply to people who reside outside of Wellington city.

Te Papa is open from 10am until 9pm on Thursdays, which will allow workers to see the exhibition.

The exhibition is at Te Papa until 11 May 2008. The usual admission charge is $8 for an adult.
