Press Release : 6th May 2008

West Coast Women In Nude Calendar

One women was mauled by a cow whilst mustering, another had a black eye from hunting in the bush only days before a dozen brave Haast women shed their inhibitions and their clothing in an initiative to raise money for the Saxton Appeal Trust.

The concept of the charity calendar is a portrayal of jailed helicopter pilots, Dave & Morgan Saxton’s lives on the West Coast, featuring women of all ages (20-56 years old), shapes and cup sizes (AA-EE) that have a strong association with the Saxton family.

A trust has been established for the two men, who are currently appealing to the High Court against their conviction and sentencing of two years nine months for “stealing” pounamu from South Westland.

The calendar is not only a way for the women to give something back to the Saxton’s, who have given them so much throughout their lives, but to promote the protest against the severity of the sentences the men are serving.

“These are twelve women who are down-to-earth, hard-working characters of the Haast community who spend their daily lives mustering, hunting, cooking, pouring beer, selling real estate and generally keeping the men of Haast on their toes,” said Ms Tasha Jones of Wanaka.

The quality of the black and white photography calendar is illustrated through the talents of local photographer, Neroli Nolan, and the tasteful beauty of the images.

The identities and photographs of the women in the calendar have been kept under wraps and will be unveiled at the annual Hunter’s Evening at the Hard Antler Bar & Restaurant in Haast, South Westland, on Saturday, May 10th at 7.30pm.
