“A Reflection of Home” Exhibition by Leon Green
“A Reflection of Home” – 1st Exhibition by
Photographer, Leon Green
Wellington – May 15,
2008
The Paramount Cinema, on Courtenay Place, Wellington, will present an exhibition of photographs by local photographer, Leon Green. The exhibition will open on the 1st of June, continue through till June 12th & will be the first solo show for the young photographer.
Leon moved
from Tyneside to New Zealand, in 2003. He originally
intended to continue studying in NZ, but this was impossible
due to a lack of funds.
Leon continued to pursue
photography in his spare time & was given a new sense of
purpose & direction, by the birth of his son in
2006.
Leon’s style of photography was formed while studying photography, at Newcastle College, Newcastle upon Tyne, in the North East of England. It developed in response to the mood and architecture of the city & of the area in general. Over the last few years he has learned to adapt this style to the unique environment of New Zealand & built a new relationship with his adopted city, Wellington.
A
Reflection of Home will feature seven photographs taken in
and around Wellington & Newcastle upon Tyne. It explores the
concepts of home, memory & perception. Leon says: “Being
an ex-pat, my perceptions of my old home, in the UK & my new
home, here in New Zealand often seem to be a reflection of
each other. My memories of the North East are coloured by my
experiences in New Zealand & my perception of New Zealand is
influenced by those memories. Our past really exists as
present memory & that memory, in turn, affects our
future
“The exhibition will reflect this perspective in
that there are many elements that connect the NZ images to
the earlier images from Newcastle, both visually &
symbolically.”
Leon also says that he is very grateful
to the Paramount Cinema for the opportunity to show his
work.
