Wellington bands go green: Phoenix-Bushman

Two of the country's most acclaimed bands - Little Bushman and The Phoenix Foundation - are joining forces with the Green Party to push the environment and quality of life into the election year debate.

“I'm really excited at being involved in bringing together these inspiring musicians,” Green Party candidate Gareth Hughes says.

“Gigs like this raise political awareness among young people who, during an election year, have a real opportunity to be part of shaping the kind of country they want to live in.

“Music is about how we live and relate to the world around us and it is great to see these bands come out in support of a Green vision for Aotearoa New Zealand.

"It's time politicians started talking about things that really matter – like the environment, social justice and quality of life for all New Zealanders. But all we are hearing in these politically charged days is about money and personal gain," Mr Hughes says.

Phoenix Foundation front man Samuel Flynn Scott says "The Phoenix boys are very happy to be associating our selves with the Green Party. As a touring band we are very aware of our environmental impact and feel that all New Zealanders on every end of the political spectrum need to learn some hard lessons about the state of our country (ourselves included)" "This upcoming election could be the most important political event my generation has yet been involved in. We are also just really excited about playing with our good friends from Cassette and Little Bushman at our favourite Wellington venue."

Little Bushman and The Phoenix Foundation will be joined by Cassette and others for one night only at The Opera House, in Wellington on August the 1st, 8pm.

Gareth Hughes, is the Green party's youngest electorate candidate at 26 years, and is number 11 on the Green Party list.
